FAQ
What is placenta encapsulation?
Placenta encapsulation is the general term used for processing a placenta into one of three forms: placenta pills, placenta tincture, or placenta salve. Studies have shown that consuming a placenta during the postpartum period can reduce the occurrence of postpartum depression, aid in the nutritional recovery process, milk production, and more.
How long does it take?
Once we pick up your placenta from anywhere in San Diego County, it generally takes 2-5 business days to process and deliver your placenta. Hand delivery is included in the price, and shipping options are available. (Although we recommend hand delivery so that one of our placenta encapsulation specialists can explain the written directions and answer any questions you may have in person.
How much does it cost?
The base cost for encapsulation is $300. An extra $75 fee is applicable to placenta tinctures. If you would like raw processing and separation for smoothies, there is no additional cost.
What is the difference between pills, a tincture and a salve?
There is no difference in efficacy; the difference is in the delivery method. Most mothers choose the option of placenta pills because it is easier to remember to take your pills along with your regular supplements. Placenta tinctures are very shelf stable and can be saved for use during menopause to regulate hormones. Placenta salves or balms can be used as an ointment, especially for perineum and C-section wounds. And yes, we can process your single placenta into different products (e.g. pills AND a tincture) if you like. However, you will receive less quantity of each product.
